“Rōjinryoku” is a catchword coined by writer Akasegawa Gempei (1937-). At a time when Japan faces an unprecedentedly rapid ageing of the population, this word encourages people to look at old age in positive and affirmative terms, instead of regarding it as something negative and undesirable.
